Indoor Percussion 2021 Audition Requirements

Auditions will include the rhythm sheets, warmups, and music excerpts appropriate to your instrument.

 

Rhythm Sheets (Battery and Pit)


EVERY PLAYER auditioning, whichever instrument you choose, should be able to play these exercises. These can/should be played on a pad with snare sticks within the metronome range indicated on the sheets.

Warmups—Battery (Snares, Tenor, BDs, Cymbals)


ALL listed warmups must be learned! See below for specific instructions for your instrument.

Snares/Tenors:

Play through all 4 variations marking time

THEN Play through Variation #1 (12”) marching Box 8


Bass Drums:

Play through all 4 variations marking time, playing COMPOSITE OF ALL parts

THEN CHOOSE a single drum part, off the Split BD Audition Sheet (i.e. BD #1, #2, #3 OR #4 and play the entire exercise

Hannum 6


ALL Battery: Play as written while marking time, and adding a 16 count roll at the end of the exercise


Bass Drums choose a single drum part, (i.e. BD #1 OR #2) and play through the entire exercise off the Split BD Audition Sheet.


Cymbals: Be able to demo Orchestral Crashes (Horizontal), Vertical Hinge Crashes (Hi Hat), Smash Crash, Sizzle/Suck (Fusion), Choke (Vertical). These will be covered at the workshop.

Timpani: Play on 4 drums (pedal 29” B to A and 32” (F to G), player probably needs to be seated. The exercise is written in C, get comfortable before transposing to other keys.
