This information is for All-State elligible students only. If you did not earn a spot in one of the SJBODA Region Band ensembles, please do not complete these steps.
Complete the following to audition:
Application part 1. Online application.

You need to complete separate applications for each instrument on which you plan to audition. Mr. Kuntz will get an email notification each time you complete the online application.
For example, if you want to audition on both flute and piccolo, you need to complete the Online application twice.
Students in grades 9-12 are elligible to audition for the All-State Bands (concert in February 2024).
Only students in grades 9-11 are elligible to audition for the All-State Orchestra (concert in November 2024).
Application part 2. Signature form. You will be redirected to this form when you complete your online registration. You will also receive an email confirmation of your online registration containing a link to the signature form, which must be printed and completed. See Mr. Kuntz if you can't print the signature sheet and need a hard copy. You only need to submit ONE signature form to cover all instruments on which you are auditioning.
Complete the online form and hand in your signature form (signed by your parent) to Mr. Kuntz no later than, Tuesday, January 9th. Mr. Kuntz will need to get all of the forms signed by Mr. DeStefano, which may take some time.
Payment options: The audition fee is $25. Different from SJBODA Region Band, it is recommended to pay online (there is a $1 service fee for online payment). If you can't pay online, please let Mr. Kuntz know asap.
Saturday, January 20th, Audition day:
- J.P. Stevens High School (855 Grove Avenue, Edison, NJ)
- Plan to have enough travel time. It's a bit of a drive.
- 9am, Registration opens.
- Registration closes at 1pm. You may arrive anytime within those 4 hours.
- Your audition will consist of:
- All your major scales
- Solo (same as SJBODA, have the entire solo prepared)
- Make sure you have an original copy of the solo with you or they won't let you use your personal photocopy
- Sight reading
Saturday, January 21st, Audition Snow Date:
- Same times and requirements.
Before you sign up to audition, please make sure you can commit to the following:

Reading Rehearsal at Bridgewater-Raritan High School
- February 5, 2024
- 5pm, Check-in
- 6pm - 9pm, Rehearsal
Weekend Rehearsal Dates in Atlantic City, NJ
*A specific itinerary will be distributed to students that earn spots in the ensemble. This is a temporary itinerary of events
- February 21, 2024 (you should be able to attend school all day, then travel to Atlantic City)
- Registration 3pm - 5pm
- Rehearsal in the evening
- Spend the night in the convention center hotel in Atlantic City
- February 22, 2024 (you would need to miss school, you would be given excused absences)
- Rehearsals in the morning and afternoon
- Spend the night in the convention center hotel in Atlantic City
- February 23, 2024 (you would need to miss school, you would be given excused absences)
- Sound check & concert
- Get picked up from the convention center and head home
*As mentioned above, you will need to spend 2 nights in the hotel. This will cost about $415 which will cover your registration, hotel room, meals...etc. An exact amount will be disclosed to students that earn spots in the ensemble.
